Video Engineering

I have started my career as a video software engineer in PlayBox Technology Ltd. back in 2002. The main activity of the company is building broadcast automation systems. Now I’m a senior software engineer in PlayBox and I’m responsible for some of the main playout automation engines serving the broadcast industry in more than 5500 TV and satellite channels worldwide.

Since 2007 I’m consulting Coach Studio with various video related projects. The company video analysis products are built to help coaches perfect their training.

In 2008 I have completed some video related projects in ZiiZap. The company Media Center gives you the ability to store and play your movies, photos and music and to record and watch TV.

In 2008 I have completed some video related projects in Image Line Software. The company offers wide range of digital audio products. One of the most popular products of the company is the Digital Audio Workstation FL Studio.
PlayBox Projects
CaptureBox
This is the main PlayBox ingest product, responsible for the capturing and encoding clips from various hardware devices like Matrox, DeckLink, Deltacast ASI, IP, FireWire, TechnoTrend, etc. . When the input signal is SDI, Component or Composite, an encoding in DV, MPEG-2 or H.264 can be performed. Along with the capture, the product allows real time streaming of the incoming streams over IP. In case of ASI or IP input, a PID filtering or program reordering can be applied to the MPEG-2 Transport Stream. Connection to various VTR devices is possible. There are three main sections – Batch Capture used for ingest from VTR devices along with VTR control, Print To Tape used for recording media files to VTR devices and Schedule used for ingest from satellite systems.
ASI, IP and FireWire streaming
Mechanisms used in the AirBox systems, which is the main PlayBox broadcast product. The mechanisms are responsible for decoding a sequence of video clips, mixing the decoded video streams with a graphic layer, adjusting the level of the uncompressed audio streams, encoding in MPEG-2, H.264 or DV compression and streaming over ASI, IP or FireWire interface.
DV playout support
The DV playout engine, used in the AirBox broadcast systems, is responsible for parsing DV and separate audio streams from various containers and passing them downstream for further processing. The engine is frame accurate and is able to prepare any container for less than one frame time, which makes the engine applicable in some news room systems, where the system response time is vital.
AVI and QuickTime format support
The support of AVI and QuickTime containers in PlayBox products is based on custom parsers and multiplexers. Thus, along with the standard AVI and QuickTime clips, PlayBox supports non-standard files produced by some third-party systems and doesn’t need additional API installations.
Mixed Playout Engine
Engine used in the AirBox playout systems for broadcast industry. It allows the playout of MPEG-2, DV, H.264, WMV and DivX clips regardless of their frame rate, frame size, audio frequency or bitrate. Frame accurate In and Out points clip selection is possible. Decoding, resizing frame rate conversion is done in real time during the playback. The engine was developed along with Petar Vutov.
